Australia’s Government has passed further workplace laws as part of its ‘Closing Loopholes’ legislation. New workplace laws come into effect throughout 2024-2025, building on initial changes introduced last December.

These changes will have widespread impact, touching on areas including definitions of employment, the right for employees to disconnect during non-work hours, contractors and sham contracting, right of entry, civil penalties for employers and enterprise bargaining, among others.

Rimfire will continue to monitor changes, and update HRHub subscribers about changes which have occurred.

We will be working to update policies and templates inline with these changes in as timely manner as possible.

FairWork is encouraging employers to get educated and compliant with the further changes to workplace laws, or risk facing significantly higher penalties, and we mirror their recommendations. More information about these changes can be found here: https://www.fairwork.gov.au/about-us/workplace-laws/legislation-changes/closing-loopholes
